
KFC Sweet 'n' Tangy BBQ Sauce
A homemade copycat BBQ sauce built on sautéed onion and garlic, molasses, and ketchup with cider vinegar, spicy brown mustard, Worcestershire, and a hit of cayenne and hot sauce. Simmered, then strained smooth. Keeps up to 30 days refrigerated. Vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free.

Ingredients
| 1 medium | onion |
| 1 tbsp (15 ml) | canola oil |
| 1 | garlic clove |
| ¼ tsp | cayenne pepper |
| 1–3 tsp | chili powder |
| ¼ tsp | coarsely ground pepper |
| ⅓ cup (110 g) | molasses |
| 1 cup (240 g) | ketchup |
| 2 tbsp (30 ml) | cider vinegar |
| ½ tsp | hot pepper sauce |
| 2 tbsp (30 g) | spicy brown mustard |
| 2 tbsp (30 ml) | Worcestershire sauce |
Instructions
- Warm the oil in a large saucepan until hot. Chop and sauté the onion until tender. Mince and add the garlic, sautéing for one additional minute.
- Mix in the molasses, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard, and hot pepper sauce.
- Lower the heat to a simmer, lid off, for about 30–40 minutes.
- Strain the sauce through a fine-mesh strainer into a large bowl, discarding the seasonings and vegetables.
- Store the sauce in a closed container in the fridge for up to 30 days.
