Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, baking soda and salt. Add the cold butter and work it into the dry ingredients with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a large measuring cup or another bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, milk, egg and vanilla. Pour over the dry ingredients and stir with a rubber spatula until a soft dough forms.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Roll it into a 25 x 18 cm (10 x 7 inch) rectangle about 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick. Cut the rectangle in half lengthwise, then crosswise into two even pieces to make four rectangles. Cut each rectangle into two triangles for 8 triangles total.
- Place scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake 10-12 minutes, or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
- For the plain glaze, whisk confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth, adding more milk if too thick; set aside. For the spiced glaze, whisk confectioners' sugar, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and milk until smooth; set aside.
- When the scones are done, cool 10 minutes, then spoon the plain glaze over each scone and drizzle with the spiced glaze.
- Let the glazes set before serving.
